The effect of stuff on our subconscious mind

I read a fascinating book by Xorin Balbes a while ago about creating soul spaces. Homes that nurture the occupants to be the best they can be.

It talks about the impact our "stuff" has on our subconscious mind, and how we live our lives. The possessions we choose to keep in our homes tell a story, and the memories we associate each item can be good or bad (sometimes both).

It's interesting to think about our possessions in this way because in order to have a home that feels lovely and really nurtures who we are, it's important not to hold onto items that make you recall unpleasant times or bad memories from the past (even on a subconscious level). For example, a piece of art you won in the divorce settlement is likely keeping you tied to your past. However a chair you inherited from your Grandma may have really pleasant and nostalgic memories that makes you think of her support when you were growing up.

The overall feeling of our homes has a lot to do with the possessions we fill it with, as well as how your home is pulled together. This is a big reason why I advocate buying quality items (even second hand stores where possible because they have a special quality about them, and good energy. Buying a house lot of furniture from a chain store risks creating a home that lacks soul, until special pieces quality pieces are introduced to make it feel more homely, authentic and personal.

If you feel uneasy in your home, or stuck in some area of your life, maybe there are things from your past that you're holding onto that might be keeping you in a holding pattern. Make time to assess your space and get rid of items that have bad memories of the past associated with them.
Rejuvenating your space will have more impact on your life than you may expect.
Live happy.
